In Audun-le-Tiche in Lorraine, the iron industry was the main source of income. Francois Boch also earned his living by casting ironware and cannonballs.
One day in 1748, however, he decided to devote himself from now on to the manufacture of ceramics. Skillfully he appropriated the new craft and soon founded a small ceramic manufactory. 265 years later, the formerly small pottery has risen to become the global corporation Villeroy & Boch. During Francois Boch's lifetime, everyday life was sometimes rich in hardships, but nevertheless characterized by joie de vivre and joy. The Audun series finds its particular inspiration in copperplate engravings of the 19th century, which depict scenes of country life in impressive detail.
