In Audun-le-Tiche in Lorraine, the iron industry was the main source of income. Francois Boch also earned his living by casting ironware and cannonballs.
One day in 1748, however, he decided to devote himself to the manufacture of ceramics. He skilfully learned the new craft and soon founded a small ceramics factory. 265 years later, the formerly small pottery factory has risen to become the global company Villeroy & Boch. During Francois Boch's lifetime, everyday life was sometimes full of hardship, but nevertheless marked by joie de vivre and joy. The Audun series finds its particular inspiration in 19th century copperplate engravings, which depict scenes of country life in impressive detail.
