Madonna with Christ Child, richly painted, cream light blue
Point by point to the masterpiece Grete Wendt's Madonna on the Engelberg, surrounded by eleven-point angels, won a gold medal at the 1937 World's Fair in Paris. Designed around 1925, the Madonna can be found in numerous color variations and with a wide variety of patterns in the manufactory's treasure trove. In October of this year, it will be reissued in an opulent painting based on historical models. The graceful figure impresses with elegance and the intimate love for the child in her arms. The fabric of the robe falls gently and shimmers in numerous shades of color. For this, a wide brush is used to paint a delicate green in three "layers" glazed on the cream-colored background. What follows is truly astonishing: with the utmost concentration and a steady hand, ornaments are painted that can hardly be surpassed in terms of richness of detail and mastery. From countless golden tendrils and circles and no less than 1,600 points, an accomplished artisan creates an imposing pattern. Every little brushstroke has to be just right for the overall picture to "pop". And the back of the Madonna is also enchanting - the edge of her cloak is also magnificently decorated. Delicate lines, tiny dots and over 250 fine dots on the edge of the mantle create the impressive border. A true masterpiece of painting.
